iOS

  1. Begin by getting whatever you want to take a screenshot of onto the screen of your iOS Device. This could mean browsing to a particular website or simply getting to the right screen in one of your apps.

  2. When you've got the screen you want to capture displayed, you need to get coordinated. You need to press the Home button and the On/Off button at the top right of the iPhone or iPad at the same time. If you hold Home too long, you'll activate Siri. Hold on/off too long and the device will go to sleep.

  3. When you press both buttons correctly, the screen will flash white and there will be a sound like a camera shutter. This means you've successfully taken your iPad or iPhone screen capture.

  4. To view your new screenshot, go into the built-in Photos app and then tap on Camera Roll. In the Camera Roll, the most recent photo will be the screenshot you just took.

Android
Instructions may vary according to device or software version, and may require some practice.

Begin by getting whatever you want to take a screenshot of onto the screen of your Android Device. This could mean browsing to a particular website or simply getting to the right screen in one of your apps.

For most devices running Android 4.0 or higher (try this method first)

Press the Power/Lock button and the Volume down button at the same time and hold them for 1-2 seconds.

For devices with physical home buttons
Press the Power/Lock button and the Home button at the same time and hold them for 1-2 seconds.

For devices without physical home buttons (i.e. HTC)
Hold down the Power/Lock button first and quickly tap the capacitive Home button.

For Samsung Devices supporting hand motions
1. Open Settings > Motions.
2. Scroll down and find "Hand Motions"
3. Activate "Palm Swipe to Capture".
4. Close the menu and swipe the screen with the side of your hand from left to right or vice versa.

When the capture was successful, your screen will flash and you'll get a notification at the top of your screen. You may also hear a camera shutter sound.

To view your new screenshot, swipe down from the top and tap on the notification. You can also access your screenshot from your Gallery app.

Begin by getting whatever you want to take a screenshot of onto the screen of your Fire Tablet or Fire Phone. This could mean browsing to a particular website or simply getting to the right screen in one of your apps.

Kindle
Kindle Fire Tablets (3rd generation + higher) and Fire Phones

Press the Volume Down button + Power button at the same time and hold them for a moment. Your screen will flash briefly and your screenshot will be saved in your Photo Gallery.

Kindle Fire (1st + 2nd generation)

As those devices do not have physical volume buttons, there is no easy way to take a screenshot.
You can however simply use another device to take a photo of your screen. Just make sure that the picture isn't blurry or out of focus, and that any details are easily recognizable.
