Scammers on WWF

katbazkatbaz Posts: 7Registered User, Facebook Connect User Loose Cannon

I recently wrote a post about a scammer on WWF, who’s going by the name, Richard Grey. Since then I did a Google search and this character has an additional 40 alias names thus far!!! It’s a sad reminder of how close to home these heartless monsters are! Please be careful ladies!

I would like to report a SCAMMER on the Word with Friends game and he uses the name "SMITH JACKSON", he starts by sending you messages on the itself (upper right comment section), he will tell you he is interested in you and would like to have your email address so the two of you can exchange messages and pictures, he also wants your phone number so you can text back and forth. In no time at all he will tell you that he love you and wants to spend the rest of his life with you. He claims to be in the "Gulf of Mexico" working on a platform and drilling for oil. Also, in no time at all he will start asking you for money, either because his daughter has a problem getting back to school and she needs money for books, boarding, etc., then he will ask for money due to a problem with the drilling rig itself and ask for a much larger amount, he ask me for $45,000, which I did NOT send money either time........be aware of his SCAMS. Again he goes by the name SMITH JACKSON, he may even call you on your cell phone and speaks with a thick accent.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, @katbaz and @Fudgie. Please report 'Richard Grey' and 'Smith Jackson' by sending an email to reportabuse@zynga.com, or from within the app to avoid getting messages and invites from these types of players. Thank you.

@Piers_Fiddler Shouldn't they report the username when they file a report? I'm pretty sure there is more than one "Richard Grey" out there and not all of them are being abusive. Also have you guys considered anything else to deter this behavior? It's getting worse, not better.

I wrote about two scammers, Richard Grey and Williams Mayville. I did not block either of them because I wanted to follow them and warn any women who may pop up as a mutual friend to them. I was able to do that, plus warn all my fellow players as well. Eventually their names disappeared from my page and I figured they changed their profiles. Well today Richard Grey pops up as the Match Of The Day, for me! I took a screenshot and hopefully can post to help warn all the women to beware of this low life, bottom feeder, hustler

I had the same story, same lines and he had the same job. But a different name. Can't remember the name now but I think there is a few of them out there with the same kind of story. They get quite aggressive when you don't answer right away. I'm not the only who has experienced these kind of "players". Annoying and irritating.

alfredwilliams3030 new player as of 1/18/18 I almost fell for his scam. Wife died in car accident 8 years ago, daughter Candace, 17 brain damaged in boarding school and has a "guardian" caretaker. Professing his love in less than a month..wanting to do something special for my soon to be step daughter according to him and send $100 money gram or I tunes since he was a marine engineer stuck on a ship in South Italy for 2 months when his contract ends and then he receives the big money they owe him and can retire and marry me. RED flags galore!! Using God and my Christianity and tender heart to his advantage..quoting scripture and repeatedly saying how Good God is in blessing him with me...on and on. I just deleted my email since I used a work email I no longer use for Google Hangouts and uninstalled Words with Friends. (sadly) I will create a new profile sometime in the future. But wanted to report this guy and give a heads up warning to all the ladies out there especially ones who play late at night. Words with Friends is apparently infiltrated with "flawed English" players looking for prey. Is no where safe anymore?

There are similar issues mentioned in other forums. I have had the same experience.. seems like the players trying to chat and seduce me are new from November of 2017. Same story about working on contract out of the country, wife has died, child in boarding school with a nanny. He hasn't asked for the money yet, but since he now wants me to use Hangouts I think it is close. I can't believe the number of scammers out there. I think we should all post the names they are using. But, the approach is very similar every time, and the text responses from them have grammatical errors which make you wonder. I am not blocking this one yet, but I have ended my games with him. The new one I had today asked if we could chat and I said I had just heard there were tons of scammers using the game... he then asked if I was a scammer. We'll see what happens. We all know we can block them, but the level of information available on the forums helps all of us to recognize these for what they are... I didn't know this was a scam until today, and I have been having a dialogue with this person for almost six weeks.

Just fell victim to this. Player did not ask for money. Just kept chatting. The whole widower with a daughter story. This happened twice. Same language barrier and guess what...oil rig engineer.
His wife died in childbirth and he lost a son at 9 years of age due to kidney disease.
The pictures are of relatively attractive men who get pushy asking for phone numbers and emails. Beware, ladies.

@IMLaraB by any chance was his name William Streaker6060 or Gray Freeman001?

I talked to my ‘friend’ too for just as long.

Is anyone familiar with Rick Burr Maxwell? He is a scammer using a false identity and is about to take a friend of mine for a lot of money. How do I stop this from happening?

    Hi guys. A quick query.

I've just started a game with this guy (see screenshot below).

His line of questioning seems a bit strange. Plus he's managed to achieve an average word score of 28.4 and he's only been playing since 10 Jan this year.

    What do you think?

    Thanks,

    Gareth

I attempted to report a WWF scammer on Zynga's report user form, but that is a total joke! I can block him, but what good will that do? His name is Edward Woodard and his user name on WWF is EdwardW429. He claimed to be a hyperbaric welder living in Mississippi, widowed with a daughter. Now I see he has a totally different picture showing himself with a little boy on his chest. It makes me mad that I can't report him to Zynga and have him removed!

GarethWT, Michael Scott is a scammer. I'm pretty sure I've heard that name before on other complaints too.

Yeah, these guys are just losers. You can tell right if the bat that they are going to try to scam since they all have the same story and all work on oil rigs. So ladies, let's play them back!! Pretend like you'll fall for their scam, get as much info as you can and then report them. The latest jerk I had to deal with goes by Ericben5700 though it looks like he's already gone away. Good riddance!

Stay away from ROWLAND TONEY on WWF. Big Scammer. I tried to report abuse but I can’t do it. WWF will not let me do it for some reason. He started out wanting to get to know me. He says he is working for the UN in Syria for Save the Children. His wife died in a car accident and his son died. He is lonely and from NY. He had some of the same questions posed to me as I have read from the other scammers on here. He repeated answers and when reporting what was going on in Syria he told it straight from BBC news. He was in love with me in no time. Wanted my gmail and to go to Hangouts. I stated to realized things just weren't right with everything and played around for a bit before I called him out. After I called him out, he kept saying it wasn't true and he loved me. I was lucky and blocked him on Instagram and WWF and Hangouts. This can be painful and very dangerous. I did not expect this. I have been playing WWF for 10 years or more. This guy has been on since Nov 2017. I never had this happen before. I have noticed many men want to chat now. BEWARE!!!!!

Watch out for Patricia Gamez who claims she just started playing WWF. (3/18)Sends lots of messages including asking if I have any problems on the Internet. Already has the Easter badge with a very low score. Fake player. Tried reporting abuse from the completed games (after I resigned) and it doesn’t work!!! WWF - please fix that!!

This is Wesley Smith, says he's a consulting engineer, widowed and with a 14 year.old daughter. Wife and son died in an accident.

Watch out for Alexander Hall. Another military supposed Captain from N Y. Wife and two kids killed in car accident. Aged 55, he is definitely not the guy in his WWF photo.

I would like to add a few more names to the scammers list on WORDS With Friends!
    Richard Williams
    Bob Alex
    Derek Caldwell
    Terry Mike

I get contacted at least once a week. I play along for a while until they want me to download Hangouts or want my email. These guys are all the same! BEWARE! Their English is broken and all us the same lines.

I'm so sorry to here this is happening to so many of you! I sincerely wish Zynga would do more about this issue. There are a lot more posts about the same problem. I included them all here:
    http://zyngaplayerforums.com/wordswithfriends/discussion/3163058/re-scammers-an-open-letter-to-frank-d-gibeau-ceo-zynga-inc#latest

Please remember when you report them via email to reportabuse@zynga.com to include their username. Even when posting on this Forum because their username is unique to the perpetrator whereas their may be several completely harmless people with the same names like those listed above.

I'm pretty sure mine was a con artist too but not 100% sure as didn't want private info, email or money etc but my gut says beware. Now reading this seems awfully coincidental lol. Mark Music or facebook which I couldn't find through a normal search (he found me after looking when playing words with friends here) which I found very odd and went by Mark Kelvin - Combat specialist, US Army, widow - 7 year old daughter looking for love lol. WTF I was trying to play scrabble people hahahaha. Anyway I think its another name to be wary of. Correct me if I'm wrong, would be nice to know not everyone who starts a convo is a ****! :)

I've had horrible issues with scammers lately. At first I reported/blocked them. Next I just ignored their chat attempts. Today I really totally messed with one. :) It was fun but the constant scamming attempts are ruining the game for me.

I get at least 1 a day. One day I got 3. It’s been really bad over the last several months. I’m considering telling them I am a fraud detective
