The wattage rating used to describe incandescent bulbs is often confused with the brightness metrics of these bulbs, and in fact, the wattage is the level of charge consumed by the bulb. A bulb with a higher wattage rating is usually brighter than a lower wattage bulb, but the wattage is not a direct measure of bulb brightness. To do this, you need to refer to the lumen level of the light. Technically, "lumen" is the amount of light from a source that reaches a defined surface area that is a set distance from the source. If the light source produces more light and the defined surface area looks brighter, the light source will have a higher lumen level.

LED common lighting is rated on lumens rather than watts because they convert more input electrical energy into light than other types of artificial illumination, and the energy input is less dissipated into the heat. A 40 watt incandescent bulb and a 10 watt LED bulb may both generate 600 lumens, but an incandescent bulb requires 4 times the energy input of the LED bulb. As this example shows, you can use general rule of thumb to compare incandescent and LED bulbs, ie LED bulbs require only a quarter to one-sixth of the energy input (ie wattage) as an incandescent bulb to generate the same The amount of light in the bulb.

If you want to simply replace an existing incandescent bulb with an LED, and you want to continue thinking about watts, this rule of thumb will guide you to replace a 40-60 watt incandescent bulb with a 10 watt LED bulb, and an incandescent bulb from 75 watts to 100 watts. 15 watt LED.
