Led Public lighting(CLASSIC)

is expected to save approximately $1.8 million annually to replace and retrofit municipal LED street lights. In the three-year project that began in the summer of 2014, the city will replace nearly 28,000 mercury lamps and 8,500 lamp posts.

LED public lighting technology has proven to be effective in reducing energy costs while ensuring better light quality in many applications. Stockton hopes to significantly reduce the costs associated with street lighting by introducing new, more energy-efficient alternatives. The City Council reported that more than half of the energy costs in Stockton in 2012 and 2013 were used to pay for public lighting. By turning to the LED public lighting paradigm, Stockton can drastically cut the project.

Unlike older lighting systems, some of which have been around for 80 years, LED systems are recyclable and non-toxic. As part of the Stockton project, engineers replaced many old poles with new decorative poles.

Stockton's decision to advance the LED retrofit did not happen overnight. Significant budget cuts include the elimination of 300 jobs and help to take action. Although the project will invest approximately $14 million, the city is expected to recover the funds within a few years.
